Midjourney V7 and GPT Image: Comparing Image Generation Workflows

Midjourney V7 and GPT Image: Comparing Image Generation Workflows

Image generation can help explore a visual direction, create an illustration or adapt an existing asset. It is less suitable for anything that must preserve exact text, precise geometry or evidence of a real delivered interface.

This is a workflow comparison based on documentation. It does not claim six months of production testing or publish a subjective quality ranking as measured fact.

Name the actual model and version

Midjourney's version documentation records V7 as an earlier release and distinguishes its features from later versions. A prompt or workflow using V7 should specify that version rather than assuming it remains the default.

OpenAI documents its image-generation capabilities under GPT Image. The unsupported “DALL-E 4” name should not stand in for the actual model selected in an API request or product.

Do not infer proprietary internal architecture from the appearance of an output.

Compare one real brief

Use the same visual objective: for example, an editorial illustration about distributed systems with space for a separately typeset heading. Define the required aspect ratio, subject, palette and crop constraints.

Assess several outputs for relevance, composition, unwanted artifacts and suitability at the intended display size. Record the prompts, model version, settings and editing steps. A single selected image cannot establish a general quality advantage.

Keep precision in the appropriate medium

OpenAI's guide acknowledges remaining limitations in text placement, consistency and structured composition. Review all generated text and fine details.

For a website card, place the actual title and description in HTML. For a logo or architecture diagram, use editable vector shapes and real text where exact relationships matter. A raster image that resembles vector artwork is not automatically an editable SVG.

Likewise, a perspective image of an object is not a textured 3D mesh or Gaussian-splat scene.

Preserve authentic project evidence

When showcasing a live website, use a real screenshot of that site. A generated dashboard can illustrate a hypothetical product, but it should not imply that the depicted interface was delivered.

Check the screenshot's current content, crop it deliberately and export an appropriate web format with useful dimensions. Keep a link to the live project so the reader can inspect the work.

Generation is useful when it supports the intended asset. The final decision should consider correction effort, licensing and workflow requirements—not unsupported claims of perfect typography or effortless production-ready output.
